The local Kékfrankos is Takler’s favourite grape and this reserve wine has been hand-picked from selected sites among the family’s own vineyards. It was made using only the ripest grapes at yields as low as 1.5kg per vine and was matured in new Hungarian oak for 16 months.
Takler is one of Szekszárd’s most highly regarded producers. Today Takler has 72 hectares across a dozen sites in the Szekszárd hills. The winery was founded in 1987 by Ferenc Takler (senior) and is run by Ferenc Takler himself, and his two sons. The family has been in the area since 1725, making the younger Ferenc the 9th generation winemaker here.
Ferenc Takler was awarded the prestigious title “Hungarian Winemaker of the Year” by the Hungarian Wine Academy in 1997.
