<image:title>Insights - Our 3 reasons to celebrate #NationalDrinkWineDay - Red wine has long been touted for its potential health benefits, when consumed in moderation. This is primarily due to antioxidants like resveratrol present in grape skins. Research suggests resveratrol may protect blood vessel linings, prevent blood clots, and lower LDL cholesterol. However, these benefits are best enjoyed within a balanced lifestyle, as excessive alcohol can harm health.</image:title>

<image:title>Insights - Small but mighty: Chianti Rùfina - Production Rules</image:title>
<image:caption>Like all Chianti, the Chianti Rùfina must comprise at least 70% Sangiovese. Other red varieties (Canaiolo, Colorino, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot) are permitted up to a proportion of 30%. However, international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Cabernet Franc may only be added up to a maximum of 15%. All grapes used for a Rufina DOCG wine must come from the production area. The wines must have an alcohol content of at least eleven percent by volume. Wine lovers are only allowed to pop the corks from September of the year following the grape harvest.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Small but mighty: Chianti Rùfina - Fattoria Il Capitano - An authentic sensorial journey in the Chianti lands</image:title>
<image:caption>Fattoria Il Capitano is located among rolling hills near Pontassieve, in the heart of the Chianti Rùfina area. In 1877 Francesca Campanari Balbi who laid the foundations of the company, while Marianna Quartara in Balbi - another female figure of great importance - consolidated its success. Maria Eugenia Ollandini, the latter's granddaughter, began producing bottled wine in the 70s. The current property is headed by the Alacevich family with Stefano Alacevich at the helm, supported by his brothers and the expertise of winemaker Maurizio Alongi. Fattoria Il Capitano extends over 30ha of land: two thirds cultivated with olive groves and one third with vineyards. The production philosophy of the Alacevich family is based on respect for the nature and the valorization of the territory. All grapes are harvested by hand following the rhythms and peculiarities of each year, thus bringing the berries to the correct ripeness. The wines tend to be fresh, medium structured, moderately tannic, with a very high aging potential. Explore Fattoria Il Capitano winery</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Small but mighty: Chianti Rùfina - Rùfina is a picturesque small sub-region of the Chianti wine-producing area, which still remains under the Tuscan radar. Wine making tradition here goes back to Etruscan times and as early as 1716, the area was mentioned as one of the best growing areas in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. Today there are 22 wineries here that produce 3 Mio bottles.</image:title>
<image:caption>The Rùfina region benefits from a higher elevation, which can reach up to 900m above sea level, that contributes to a cooler climate and a longer growing season. Thus allowing grapes to achieve optimal ripeness, while maintaining essential acidity. The unique terroir, characterized by calcareous soils along with a diverse mix of forest and vineyard, imparts distinctive qualities to its wines, often delivering complex aromas and a vibrant flavor profile.</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Under the Tuscan sun ☀️ - Wine may not be the most immediate association that travelers make with Pisa’s surrounding areas. But the history goes back to the Etruscans, who almost 1,000 years BC started the viticulture in the area. The Terre di Pisa wine region is located between sea and mountains, so there are different types of conditions for viticulture at different altitudes and different soils.</image:title>
<image:caption>Today the area consists of forests, olive groves and farmland, where vineyards are interspersed in a beautiful and fine way that we recognize from the rest of Tuscany. The primary red grape varietals grown are Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Ciliegiolo, and Trebbiano, Vermentino and Malvasia for the whites.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pieve de Pitti winery, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, offers a serene escape into the world of fine wines. With a history steeped in tradition, this family-owned estate is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Wine maker Caterina Gargari was an architect before becoming a winemaker. Thus she spent several years, first supported by consultants, working in the vineyards studying the terroir, the soil, the climate and learning everything she could about growing grapes and making wine. Caterina thrives for minimal intervention winemaking that promotes, rather than overshadows the work that is done in the vineyard. The vineyards are managed in a sustainable way - no pesticide, no chemical fertilizers, no herbicide - and harvest is always by hand. Pieve de’ Pitti wines are made to be enjoyed with good friends and good food. And at the end, the bottle must be empty. Explore Pieve de’ Pitti winery</image:caption>

<image:caption>Dolenjska boasts a continental climate and is known to be the coolest part of the country for vinegrowing due to effects of the colder pre-Alpine climate. The soils are mostly composed of marls and sandstones with a limestone binder. The region boasts an impressive 7.500 winemakers. The special features of the region are not only the wines, but also the vineyard cottages (zidanice), which are small brick houses in the vineyards, many of which have been converted into accommodation where you can spend the night. With its uniqueness, diversity and great potential, Dolenjska is acknowledged as a wine region of the future that can grow top quality grapes and deliver excellent wines with great potential. Red grapes are predominant in the area, such as Žametovka (Kölner Blau), Modra Frankinja, Sentlovrenka (St. Laurent) and Modri Pinot (Pinot Noir). White varieties grown include Renski Riesling, Traminec (Gewürztraminer), Chardonnay and Rumeni Plavec.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Slovenia has 3 main wine growing regions: Podravska region, Posavska region and Primorska region. Dolenjska is a hilly sub-region of the Posavje wine region in South-East Slovenia, bordering to Croatia. It is surrounded by the river Sava in the East and the river Krka in the West and covers appr. 2,400 ha. The Dolenjska region is known for its rolling hills covered with vineyards, the Krka river valley with its many castles and monasteries and healing thermal waters. The hilly landscape is interspersed with narrow valleys and very steep slopes, on which the vines prevent soil erosion, but which also means that a lot of the work in the vineyards has to be done manually.</image:caption>

Cviček has a rich history of over 200 years and is the wine of choice for most households in the area. Cviček is one of only 3 wines in the world made from red and white grape varieties. <image:title>Insights - Caring for the Planet - One Sip at a Time - Honeybees play a vital role in sustaining healthy ecosystems and are an essential part of food production, pollinating most of the world’s fruits, vegetables, nuts and more. In many areas around the world however, honeybees are endangered due to monoculture farming, loss of habitat and the use of pesticides.</image:title>
<image:caption>Technically grapevines don’t need bees for pollination as they are self-pollinating. However, cover crops that surround the vineyards rely on bees for pollination. In turn, these cover crops promote biodiversity helping combat the monocultural nature of a vineyard. The cover crops are also vital to prevent soil erosion, increase the organic content of the soil, help avoid pests and allow wine growers to be chemical-free - which in turn is a prerequisite for bees to thrive. Thus a conscious and sustainable farming in the vineyards can go a long way for a happy and healthy bee populations. Research and experience shows that this will positively influence vineyard health, the quality of the grapes … and ultimately the quality of the wine produced. And isn’t that what we are all looking for?!</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Eger - The Coolest Wine Region of Hungary - The Egri Bikavér</image:title>
<image:caption>What has made this region famous is of course the Egri Bikavér - or Bulls Blood - a blended full-bodied dry red wine made with at least 4 grape varietals and aged in wooden barrels for at least 6 months. Legend has it that during the siege of the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, troops of Eger stained their beards and armor with Egri Bikaver, which led the enemies to believe that they had drunk the blood of bulls. The Egri Bikavér was mass-produced during Communism times, crushing the regions reputation for quality wine production. But since the early 1990s the many local wineries have worked tirelessly to re-establish the high quality and reputation of this wonderful blend. The adoption of the Bikavér code has also helped by defining production standards, used grape varietals and proportions as well as aging times. Another typical wine of the region is the Egri Csillag, a dry fruity white wine.</image:caption>

The wine regions takes its name from the two towns of this name: Goriska today on the Italian side, and Brda on the Slovenian side. The location between the Alps in the North and the Mediterranean Sea in the South results in a unique microclimate very favorable for grape growing. The hallmark of Brda wines is their minerality. <image:title>Insights - Bikavér - 3 Things to know about the legendary Hungarian red wine - The Name</image:title>
<image:caption>Bulls Blood translates to ‘Bikavér‘ in Hungarian which is pronounced: bik-ah-vair. There are many different stories explaining the origin of the name the most popular being to link the name to the Ottoman siege of the castle of Eger in 1552. The legend has it that 2,000 men, women and children defended the castle against the onslaught of 30,000-40,000 Turks. The defeated Turks were convinced that the defendants must have been drinking Bulls Blood to have such a strength to defend the castle despite being outnumbered by far. As fascinating as it sounds, the legend is unlikely to be true as Hungary was largely a white wine-producing country at that time. But hey, who are we to let facts get in the way of a good story!</image:caption>

<image:title>Insights - Discover the cradle of wine making - Georgia - In autumn after harvesting, the grapes are pressed and then the juice, grape skins, stalks and pips are all poured into the qvevri. Depending on the desired style of the wine, different approaches regarding including or excluding seeds or skins for instance may be followed by the winemaker. In the marani, the traditional Georgian wine cellar, the qvevri is buried in the ground for fermentation and aging. Natural fermentation occurs in the consistent temperature of the marani (between 12-15°C / 53-59°F). After the initial fermentation, the qvevri is topped off with wine from another vessel, ensuring that no air remains within.</image:title>

<image:caption>Georgia is recognized as the homeland of wine with an 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition. Thus of course it comes as no surprise that wine plays a key role in the every day life and religious and family celebrations throughout the country. Wine cellars are still considered the holiest place in the family home.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Wineries - Organic Wine by Sophie Germanier / South Africa - BeeConscious - Wines with a vision</image:title>
<image:caption>Honeybees play a vital role in sustaining healthy ecosystems and are a vital part of food production. While you might think vineyards and bees don't mix, these little buzzing unsung heroes can actually play a key role in boosting vineyard health and grape quality . Sophie has created her dedicated wine label called BeeConscious to raise awareness of the importance of bees. And her commitment extends to every detail of the value chain from production to delivery - this means naturally no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers and herbicides, but also light weight bottles to reduce carbon emissions during transportation and fair labour practices.</image:caption>
