Szeleshát.

Hungary | Szekszárd.

The Szeleshát terroir is located at the center of Szekszárd wine region in the South of Hungary. History had a huge impact on the people living this area. Back in the beginning two thousand years ago, the Celts were engaged in viticulture and winemaking in the region. The first written records date back to Roman times, when the ancient passages of the Roman Empire (Limes) ran just below the vineyards of Alsónyék and represented the eastern border of the empire. Benedictine monks worked in the vineyards and even during the Turkish occupation it was one of the main sources of income for the locals.

The winery family discovered the at the time fully abandoned area with a very high potential for top quality vine growing at the southern part of Szekszárd wine region, exactly at Szeles-hát. In 1998, the growing of grapes and winemaking was restarted. The plantation of the grapes was then finished in 2019, the family estate is 57 ha in size today.

The most grown varieties are Kékfrankos, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wines are made with the most modern technologies in a very respectful way of the old traditions. The red wines are aged in small oak barrels in the old traditional wine cellars for at least 6 months. The goal is to produce balanced, richly flavored unique terroir wines only made at Szeles-hát vineyard.
